The Justin Morgan Youth Group (JMYG) is a youth organization affiliated the Vermont Morgan Horse Association.
Members are interested in preserving the Morgan breed through activities such as:
- Rated and local Morgan shows like Vermont Morgan Heritage Days www.vtmorganheritagedays.org
- Summer Kick Off Open Horse Show.
- The American Morgan Horse Association (AMHA) Horsemastership Badge and Youth of the Year programs www.morganhorse.com.
- Special annual and periodic group meetings.
JMYG welcomes members from any geographic region and of any age up to 21 years .
Youth of the Year Contests
Youth of the Year contests are offered at Vermont Morgan Heritage Days, Vermont Spring Classic, and many A Rated Morgan Shows throughout New England.
The Youth of the Year Contest is comprised of 4 elements:
- Written Test
- Oral Presentation
- Judging with Oral Reasons
- Horsemanship Pattern
Wonderful prizes as well as rewarding skills are earned though participation in these contests. JMYG members are encouraged to participate in these fun events!

W.Lyman Orcutt, Jr. Scholarship
The VMHA continues to encourage excellence in it's members by providing a memorial scholarship each year to an outstanding man or woman who would like to continue their education. At least one $500 scholarship is given each year.VMHA Scholarship Application
Horsemastership Achievement Program
Another great program JMYG members are encouraged to take part in is the AMHA Horsemastership Achievement Program. By earning badges at each of the five levels, participants will benefit from increased knowledge of horsemanship and the Morgan breed.
The five levels offered are:
- Bulrush
- Woodbury
- Sherman
- Black Hawk
- Justin Morgan

The Youth of the Year Award was created in 2005 to honor the VMHA Youth who have gone above and beyond their duty to support the VMHA and the Morgan Horse through promotion and volunteerism. This recognition has been observed by their peers and other VMHA members.
